National Basketball Association All-Star game is held in Boston.
January 14, 1964
The East beats the West 111-107 in Boston Garden. The first and to date only NBA All-Star Game played in Boston, the game is nearly canceled by a threatened boycott of the players on both team in support of a demand by the Players Association, led by Celtics Bob Cousy and Tom Heinsohn, that team owners create a pension fund. The game, the first to be televised live on network television, only proceeds when the owners agree to the demand 15 minutes before tipoff.
